Insulated rooms
Insulated garden rooms in Cork
An insulated garden room has insulation in the walls, the roof and the floor, double glazing and no gaps. A fitted 12 to 16 m² room insulated throughout is €25,250 VAT included. A single-skin log cabin isn't the same building.
Free, no obligation. One local company prices it, not five.

Insulated means five things
- Walls: insulation between an inner lining and the outer cladding, with a breathable membrane.
- Roof: insulation above or between the joists, under the membrane.
- Floor: insulation in the floor, not boards straight onto the base.
- Glazing: double glazing in well-sealed frames.
- Air-tightness: no gaps at the corners, the roof edge or round the doors.
Miss one and the heat goes there.
Cabins
Log cabins and insulation
A log cabin's walls are the logs themselves. Eco rooms are sold on better windows and doors, at €1,500 a m² and up, and a floor insulation and heating package runs €580 to €1,500. Ask how the roof and floor are insulated, and how thick the walls are.
Ask
Five questions for the quote
- What's in each of the walls, roof and floor, and how thick?
- Is there a vapour control layer on the warm side?
- What glazing, and what frames?
- How is it heated, and what does the heater draw?
- What's the guarantee on the structure and on the roof?

Questions
Questions people ask
Is a log cabin insulated?
The logs give some insulation, but most cabins are single-skin walls with no floor or roof insulation unless you add it. Ask.
Can I use an insulated garden room all year?
That's the point of one: insulated walls, roof and floor, double glazing and a heater keep it usable in a Cork winter.
Does a garden room need a BER?
A BER is needed when a home is sold or let. A garden room under Class 3 isn't a home in its own right.
